Since you’re guaranteed to get soaked during this thrilling adventure, you might be wondering what to expect from the water temperatures so that you can dress accordingly! Here are 3 things to know about the Ocoee River water temperature:

1. Hydroelectric Dams Help Warm the River

hydroelectric dam on the Ocoee RiverOne of the great things about the Ocoee River is that it’s impounded three times in shallow lakes upstream of the whitewater, courtesy of several hydroelectric dams on the river. This allows the sun to warm the water, resulting in temperatures that are warmer than other mountain rivers across the country! The dams also control the impressive power of the river, which allows us to provide the amazing whitewater rafting trips that you can experience today!

2. Cool Temperatures in Spring and Fall

The Ocoee River water temperature is cool in the spring due to melting snow from the surrounding mountains. You can generally expect the water temperatures to be in the 50s in March, the mid to upper 50s in April, and the mid-60s in May. The river cools back off in the fall, but it’s a relatively slow decline where you can still expect the temperatures to be in the 70s in September and most of October. Many folks actually enjoy the cooler temperatures in the spring and fall as the water can be very refreshing!
