Top Things to Know About Rafting on the Ocoee River in Spring, Summer, and Fall

You’ll be excited to know that our white water rafting trips on the Ocoee River start as early as April and run all the way into October, giving you plenty of time to join our action-packed adventures! While our rafting trips offer the same thrilling experience throughout the operating season, you may find a few differences in the weather depending on when you decide to ride the rapids! Here are the top things to know about rafting on the Ocoee River in spring, summer, and fall:

1. Spring Season

The spring season is an exciting time to join our white water rafting trips, as you can be one of the first guests of the year to challenge the rapids of the Ocoee River! Our rafting season begins on weekends in April, and then we continue to operate on weekends throughout the month of May. This is a pleasant time to enjoy the beautiful spring weather in Ocoee TN, as the average daily high temperatures reach between 70 and 78 degrees during April and May. As a bonus, you can enjoy reduced trip rates in the spring! During this time of year, we recommend that you wear wool, fleece, or polyester clothing as cotton has no insulating value once it gets wet!

2. Summer Season

group rafting with Quest ExpeditionsMany folks consider the summer season their favorite time to go rafting on the Ocoee River, thanks to the warm temperatures all summer long! We also offer many more trips during the summer, with rafting trips departing 5 days a week (Thursday through Monday) from Memorial Day to Labor Day. During the summer in Ocoee TN, you’ll find that the average daily high temperature is about 87 degrees and perhaps even higher with the heat index. That means that it’s the perfect time to get soaked while challenging the rapids! When joining us in the summer, you’ll want to wear shorts, a bathing suit, and a t-shirt!

3. Fall Season

If summer slipped by too fast, which it often seems to do, there is still time to go rafting on the Ocoee River! After Labor Day weekend, we offer white water rafting trips on weekends all the way up until mid-October! The average daytime temperatures cool off a bit throughout September and October, so be sure to dress appropriately based on the weather forecast! While the views of the gorge in the Cherokee National Forest are gorgeous any time of year, guests visiting in early October are often treated to the beginning of fall foliage colors!
