Top 3 Ocoee River Rafting Trips You Need to Experience
Did you know we offer various different whitewater rafting trips for all ages and skill levels? We believe that rafting is an awesome outdoor activity that everyone should have the opportunity to experience. Whether you’re looking for a relaxing trip down the river or are wanting to take on the rapids, we have the trip for you! Here are the top 3 Ocoee River rafting trips you need to experience:
1. Middle Ocoee River Trip
No rafting experience is necessary to partake in this awesome adventure! The Middle Ocoee River Trip was created in the late 1970’s when the TVA Flume Line was no longer able to carry water to generate power, diverting the water back to the river bed and making a new whitewater trail. This section of the river is considered “the nation’s most popular” for whitewater rafting trips. If you’re bringing your family or a big group, this trip would be perfect for you. Accompanied by an experienced guide, you’ll be perfectly safe all while having a blast as you head down the river. Trips for this adventure typically last around 4 hours and are available during weekends in the spring and fall, as well as Thursday through Monday in June, July and August.
2. Full Day River Trip
Also known as the “Olympic Experience”, the Full Day River Trip was created for whitewater enthusiasts. With 10 miles of incredible thrills, rapids, drops and more, you will love the adrenaline rush that comes with this trip. On this adventure, you’ll run through the 1996 Olympic Whitewater Competition Course, where the river narrows and the rapids get bigger. You’ll even come face to face with the upper section’s most famous rapid, Humongous. One of the best things about this trip is that it includes a riverside picnic lunch, featuring sandwiches, chips, cookies, fruit and your choice of sweet tea or lemonade. We offer this trip Saturdays and Sundays from mid May to mid September.
3. Upper Only Ocoee River Trip
Similar to the Full Day Trip, you’ll also run through the Olympic course while you travel the Upper Only Ocoee River Trip. This Ocoee River rafting trip is about half the length and time of the Full Day, with 5 miles of class 3 and 4 rapids, running about 4 hours. Because this is a more strenuous course, the minimum age of participants is 12 years old. This trip runs on a very limited schedule and is only available on select Saturdays throughout July and August, so make sure you plan your trip soon!
Where to Stay
If you’re still looking for a place to stay during your trip to the Ocoee River, we have a few suggestions. The area has tons of lodging options, including cabin rentals, hotels and campgrounds. However, if you want to stay close to all the whitewater action, we recommend checking out our group bunkhouses located at our rafting headquarters. Each bunkhouse comes with bunk beds, central AC, bathrooms, refrigerators, a covered front porch, grills and more. This space is perfect for large groups!
