Sail In Greece

Sailing Vacation in the Greek Isles

Explore Exotic Islands of Greece from Your Private Yacht

Sail the Greek Isles on a private 49’ foot sailing yacht this fall. Quest will offer two 7 day trips for two to three couples on this once in a lifetime adventure. You’ll have two US Coast Guard captains, highly experienced in Greece, they’ll provide you information about the islands, local stops, places to explore and prepare great meals with local flavor.

Your vacation will begin upon arrival in Athens Greece. You have the option is to arrive a day or two prior so you can experience the sites and acclimate to the time change. You’ll board the sailing yacht Saturday afternoon about 5:00pm. We’ll spent the night here in Plaka, familiarize ourselves with the boat then off to explore the nightlife and enjoy the local fare. Plaka is set amidst the Acropolis, built on areas of the ancient town of Athens. The following morning we’ll set sail for the following islands.

Poros When you sail into Poros you see the town built on the rocky slopes of the island and as you approach you will say to yourself “this is a Greek island!” It’s one of the most beautiful approaches in Greece. There are several beautiful bays for swimming, some with ruins dating back centuries. In town is a marine academy, great night life, wonderful tavernas and beautiful markets for stocking up on fresh fruits and veggies. There is a secret bakery down an alley way with the most amazing bread ever! There is no sign; you have to know where it is. The father and son don’t speak English so brush up on your Greek or sign language.

Spetsis – This history-rich island of tranquil pine forests was the setting for John Fowles’ The Magus.  This is a charming island and a great area to rent a bicycle and explore the coast line.

Hydra An artists’ hideout and not a car to be seen on the whole island. One of my favorite stops, where you can take a donkey ride to the top of the island for a spectacular view and photo opts, later join the nightly sunset party at “Hydronetta” on the side of the cliffs, listen to classical music, sip a cocktail and applaud the sun making its daily dip into the sea! Hydra is a great “2 day” island if we want to spend some more time soaking up the beauty and culture.

Methana – There is a spa today with Thermal baths that have been known from ancient times where you can get a massage. Hike on an extinct volcano. Have dinner at a Taverna in the hills where they make wine from their own grapes and olive oil from their trees.

Epidavoros – On the Peloponnese peninsula this charming town is near one of the best preserved of all the ancient Greek theatres, close to the ruins of a city in 7’ of clear water where you can snorkel and home to an active fishing community. The fresh fish at the Posiden Taverna are amazing.

Agenia – The Island of pistachios and octopus with a well-protected anchorage. Hire a scooter or taxi and ride over to Agia Marina harbor for lunch and a hike up to the Temple of Aphaia, one of the finest Doric Temples remaining in all of the Greek Isles.

Heading Back- We can leave early morning for a beautiful deserted island for swimming and sunning before sailing back to Alimos Marina in Athens. Alternatively we can choose to spend the morning doing some sightseeing before sailing back to Athens for a late afternoon arrival.

We’ll depart each morning for a new destination with the afternoon available to relax, explore at your leisure. Breakfast and lunch are included on the boat with local fare, fresh breads, fruit, beer and wine.

Returning – We’ll have the option to depart early for a beautiful deserted island for swimming and sunning before sailing back to Alimos Marina in Athens. Alternatively we can choose to spend the morning doing some sightseeing before sailing back to Athens for a late afternoon arrival.

On return to the marina you can plan to disembark the yacht Friday evening. You will need a hotel for Friday evening where you can plan to catch a flight early Saturday Morning.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a typical day?
An amazing journey on a once in a lifetime sailing trip. Days start with a breakfast on board, maybe a swim before we raise sails taking us to our next destination. Maybe anchor along the way to swim, snorkel the clear Mediterranean waters. Breathtaking scenery along our sailing route with mountains, ruins, small villages before arriving at another perfect island to explore. Lunch is served Tapas Style along with local beer and wine. Each evening we’ll arrive at a new island, you can explore the village at your leisure. Dinner is ashore in a wonderful taverna featuring local delicacies and fresh fish. The evening is free for dancing, relaxing, socializing, water front walks and a late evening drink on the yacht.

How many people are on the yacht?
Two captains and 4 guests unless you have friends that would like to join you and share the forward bathroom with the captains. Group rates are available, call.

Is it safe?
You will be sailing with very experienced captains who have a wealth of local knowledge. Sailing does have inherent risks.

Is travel in Greece safe?
The Greek government is recovering from a trying time, the Greek people are as welcoming as ever. We feel comfortable everywhere we go in Greece. People are very friendly and many speak English.

Why is the trips scheduled for September?
It is our favorite month for Greece. The weather is great, still warm (80 degrees) but not hot like summer. The Meltemi winds have settled down making sailing more comfortable. It is less crowed than the peak European summer vacation months of July and August. The water is still great for swimming or snorkeling. The perfect time for an extraordinary trip.

Can you help me with flights?
Sure, call our office at 1-800-277-4537.

What last year’s guests had to say.

Such a relaxing and informative trip. Sailing, snorkeling and dining in the Norther   n Cyclades Islands was a dream come true.

The local people were welcoming and full of smiles. We felt at home on the boat as well on the islands. We also enjoyed getting to know our sailing companions from Texas.

Thanks a million!

Happy Sailing
