A Unique Ocoee River Experience

Traditionally, within the whitewater outfitting industry, Spring and Fall are known as the “shoulder seasons.” Business is a little slower, and the Ocoee River only flows on weekends until Labor Day Monday. Available rafting trips are generally allotted to our most experienced guide staff. Senior guides begin to arrive in early spring full of energy, excited to be home at the Ocoee.

The spring is a time of great anticipation among river folk. Fall consists of desperately hanging onto the last days of summer as the leaves take on many colors. It’s a cycle every river guide, ski bum, and all those working seasonal jobs know all too well.

The shoulder seasons are also an incredible time to go whitewater rafting on the Ocoee River! Don’t let your sense of adventure and desire of the great outdoors to be put off by chillier temperatures. Some of the best rafting of the season is to be had in April/May and September/October.

The Advantages of Spring and Fall Rafting Trips

Here are the top three reasons why a spring rafting trip is worth braving the cooler weather.

  1. An early or late season trip offers a more private and
introspective experience. Things can get busy on the Ocoee River during the
peak season. The combination of world class whitewater, continuous rapids and a
guaranteed water level, makes Ocoee, Tennessee a top destination for a spring
or fall rafting trip. An early or late season trip lets you experience this fun
and uniqueness of the Ocoee River without the hustle and bustle of peak season.
You just might experience a Middle Ocoee whitewater rafting trip all to
    yourself!
  2. A trip during the shoulder season provides a different experience here in beautiful Tennessee. Enjoy quite mountain scenery of spring, as fresh green leaves and new blooms come to life. Whether it’s spotting a creature hiding along the riverbank or that rare eagle soaring above is a special encounter for everyone. Experience the fog lifting off the mountains on a cool October morning as the fall colors glisten. View the waterfalls flowing off the mountain after an April shower. You’re sure to experience the Ocoee River in a unique way on a spring or autumn rafting trip.
  3. A late season trip on the Ocoee River is a great way to break up the wintertime blues or start the winter season off on the right foot. We all know that long stretches of cold weather can take a toll on our mental and physical health. What better way than to get some much-needed exercise and scratch the itch to be outdoors than a whitewater rafting trip? Give your brain some healthy endorphins! Take one last trip before the cold season starts. Or break up the winter gloomies on a spring trip as the cold weather comes to an end.
